Eduardo Camavinga has decided he wants to stay at Real Madrid and reject any summer exit, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, cooling speculation over a move to Manchester City.
Romano's update on July 2 followed a report from Spanish outlet Marca claiming Real Madrid and Manchester City were in direct contact over a potential transfer for the 23-year-old French midfielder.
Marca reported that new Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho had approved Camavinga's sale to help fund other squad reinforcements, including a new midfielder and a central defender.
Romano, however, insists there is no confirmation of any official proposal or advanced negotiation between the clubs at this stage of the window.
"Eduardo Camavinga has a very clear intention, and he communicated that to his agents. He wants to stay at Real Madrid. He wants to play for Real Madrid.
He wants to be part of Real Madrid squad next season, " Romano said.
The midfielder is determined to bounce back from a difficult campaign marred by injuries, a Champions League red card in Munich, inconsistent La Liga form, and missing out on the World Cup.
"He doesn't want to leave Real Madrid after a bad season. He's still very young. He feels he can have a future at Real Madrid, " Romano added.
"He understands that was not at Real Madrid level, but at the same time, the red card in Munich, some bad moments in LaLiga, the injury and so not going to the World Cup...
Camavinga wants to stay, wants to fight for his place and wants to try to convince Jose Mourinho, " Romano continued.
Manchester City remain in the market to strengthen their midfield after signing Elliot Anderson, having also been linked with Sandro Tonali before he reportedly headed to Tottenham.
"At the moment on Manchester City, I don't have a confirmation about any proposal or any advanced negotiation. It's just something that Manchester City know that Real Madrid could open doors to the exit of Camavinga, " Romano explained.
Real Madrid, for their part, are reported to be tracking Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni, with any Camavinga sale potentially funding incoming arrivals at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Romano stressed the situation could shift across the eight remaining weeks of the window if the player's stance changes, but for now Camavinga is resolved to fight for his place under Mourinho.
