Fábio Silva scored the only goal as Borussia Dortmund edged FC Tokyo 1-0 in their club friendly at the New Japan National Stadium on Saturday.
The German side made their second-half pressure count after a tight and goalless first half in front of a strong crowd in Tokyo during their pre-season tour of Japan.
Both teams were level at the break after a cagey opening 45 minutes. Live updates had the match at 0-0 after 34 and 35 minutes, with little to separate them.
The deadlock was broken in the 54th minute when Fábio Silva found the net for Dortmund. The strike proved decisive in a low-scoring friendly contest.
From there, Silva and his teammates managed the game to secure the narrow victory. Tokyo pushed for an equaliser but could not find a way through.
The statistics underlined Dortmund's control of possession in Japan. They held 66 percent of the ball compared to Tokyo's 34 percent in the final analysis.
Dortmund also edged the attacking numbers, registering five shots on target at 71 percent accuracy. Tokyo created one big chance and had four attempts on target during the match.
The result finished 0-1 after a disciplined second-half display from the Bundesliga side. It gave Dortmund another positive step in their summer preparations ahead of the new season in Germany.
FC Tokyo will take encouragement from their defensive organisation for long periods. Their focus now returns to domestic commitments after this friendly test at the New National Stadium.
