Egypt and Iran drew 1-1 in Group G at Lumen Field on Saturday. A point each leaves both sides with work still to do heading into the final standings.
Egypt move to five points after three games. Iran climb to three points. The draw keeps Egypt well-placed in Group G, while Iran avoid elimination for now.
Egypt's high possession game was clear from the outset. They controlled 61% of the ball and completed 512 of 587 passes, pressing Iran back into their own half for long spells.
Iran hit back quickly. Taremi was brought down in the box, but his penalty was saved. He reacted fastest to the rebound and prodded home to level in the 11th minute.
Ramin Rezaeian then put the ball in the net for Iran in the 14th minute, but the goal was not allowed to stand. Egypt defender Mohamed Abdelmonem limped off shortly after, replaced by Y. Ibrahim.
Saber, who was booked before being replaced at half-time, scored his side's only goal. His early finish gave Egypt the platform to control large parts of the match.
