AK - Newcastle Season Three Review – Fabricio Coloccini

Updated: Feb 13

Aaron's Season Three update with Newcastle United in the Das Football FM Head to Head Challenge.

The less we talk about season three the better, what an awful season that was.

The plan this season was to go with a different approach, we adopted a 3331 formation which was extremely inconsistent and after about 20 or so league games enough was enough and we reverted to our more familiar 433. We never really got going this year and were always hovering around mid-table. European football was never really in our sights. The biggest positive of the season was the signing of Gustavo Assunção, a young Brazilian midfielder who very quickly established himself as a first team regular, popping up with five goals and seven assists in his first season. We got knocked out in both cups at the first attempt and ended up finishing 11th in the league, how Coloccini is still in a job I'll never know, maybe the new contract he asked for at the start of the season is what’s kept him in a job. So not a great deal to shout about really in season three, a pretty non eventful season and another backwards step.

Below are all the deals made this season by Fabricio Coloccini:

Points total

  • 5th place finish + 72 points.

  • Season total: 72 points.

  • 9th place finish + 62 points.

  • Season total: 62 points.

  • 11th place finish +47 points

  • Season total: 47 points

Overall Total – +181points

Looking to the future…
"Target for season four is top four, a shot at all the major trophies in the final season is what Fabriccio Coloccini needs. A cup win again would be nice this year but I’m not too worried, it’s all on season five, so a top four finish is the main focus this season, the league is where we’ll be putting all our focus this season."
